Wing Commander John Heagerty of the Map Room's similarly cordial invitation to the Cabinet War Room 1961 dinner

While the great and the good came down to visit (and often stay at) Grove Place, and DW often stayed with them, a highlight of the year must have been the London Controlling Section reunion dinners. These seem to have started in 1947 and to have carried on until the 1970s, initially being held at the Hungaria Restaurant, and later on at Brooks's.

Guests from outside the LCS included Lord Ismay, Lord Alexander, Lord Alanbrooke and others from the very pinnacle of the Allied Command structure.

Would that one could have been the proverbial 'fly on the wall' and have listened in at these, the most exclusive of 'black tie' dinners ! What the wartime Deception Planners and their masters - the likes of Lord Alanbrooke, Lord Ismay and Lord Alexander - didn't know about the inner workings of World War Two II must have been very little
