DW's 'Personality Pages' Click on the image to enlarge The 'Mystery Rooms' broadsheet DW at Alexandra Palace A copy of this photo appeared in the third volume By now, DW very much in demand as a celebrity. He wrote pieces for the Daily Mail from time to time, and between 1936 and 1939 he wrote a column of book reviews in Current Literature. In 1938, the Daily Mail commissioned DW to invent eight 'Mystery Rooms' for the Ideal Home Exhibition at Olympia. These rooms, thought up by DW and implemented by a Mrs Darcy Braddell, were inspired by eight real but un-named celebrities, and the public had to guess the identities of the celebrities. The Rooms were a huge success. A copy of the exhibition broadsheet came to light in 2011, and is discussed in another section of this site. In the early days of television in 1939, DW appeared as part of a celebrity line-up with his friend Lord Donegall and other luminaries, and between January and April 1939 he wrote a 'Personality Page' for the Sunday Graphic. He cut it out however because it left him too little time for writing. References : 'Drink and Ink ' page 154.
