As DW wrote in his autobiography about the proofs:
'Months later the galley proofs come along. The publisher's proof-reader rarely spots more than a third of the printer's errors or mis-spellings. I naturally read a set myself, and I also get four other people to read sets. Each of them spots some error that the others have missed; and even when the page proofs arrive one finds in them a few oversights that must be corrected.'
