DW's Personal Assessments of Quality

Some of the assessments DW made of his own books.

DW was very honest with himself regarding which books he thought he had done a good job with, and the few with which he thought he had been less successful.

DW considered 'The Second Seal', 'The Golden Spaniard' and 'They Found Atlantis' among his best books.

DW considered 'Curtain Of Fear' and 'Bill For The Use Of A Body' among his worst. DW's heart clearly wasn't in the latter because he confessed in the inscription in his own copy that the book - an extra book in a year when his routine was to produce just one - had been written to pay the taxman.

It nevertheless sold well. Even on his worst days DW was a very professional author, and on his best days he could be magnificent.

It is no surprise that with his flair and hard work and attention to detail, he was one of the country's (and for that matter the world's) most successful authors.
