On 8th January 1972, Hutchinsons sent booksellers a celebratory booklet to celebrate DW’s 75th birthday.
The night before, DW had a family party which included a trip to the theatre, supper for eight at Cadogan Square, and ‘lots of champagne’. Even though it was a Saturday, DW was at work the following day on his next book.
