	 Hilda Gosling Barbara Symonds
Hilda Gosling was a next door neighbour who DW came to regard as a sister. They corresponded throughout World War I and their later lives.

Barbara Symonds was DW’s first great, and unrequited, love. He wore this miniature on a ribbon round his neck throughout World War I.
