"My book that summer (1938) was 'The Golden Spaniard'. The main theme was a plagiarism of Alexandre Dumas' 'Twenty Years After', in which during the war of the Fronde, the four friends take opposite sides for political reasons. The book covered all the opening phases of the Spanish Civil war and is one of the best I have ever written."
