Dennis Wheatley's Homes1922 - 1926: 20a Trebovir RoadYou can almost feel the ghosts of DW, Nancy & Gordon Eric walking down the steps The old steps have been recovered and the entrance doorway blocked up 20a was DW's first marital home, and he visited a huge number of estate agents before alighting on the property. He was 'stung' out of a quarter's rent when he bought it. There is a funny story attached to this, but I will leave it to Phil Baker to tell it in his forthcoming book. DW leased the ground floor and basement flat. The first floor consisted of a large sitting room in front with a bay window and at the back two bedrooms. The basement had a kitchen in front, and a bedroom for a maid under the ground floor hall, with at the back a dining room and a bathroom. The rooms were all not only reasonably large but fairly lofty. DW's son was born during this time and DW and Nancy did a fair amount of entertaining – giving small dinner parties to their mutual friends. References : 'Drink and Ink' pages 44,52,60,61. |
